Two core drilling rigs rated for 500 metres may not suit the same project.

Why? Core size, ground conditions, hole angle and tooling all affect equipment selection. Before comparing prices, ask these four questions.

1. What core size does that depth rating apply to?

A maximum depth figure is only useful when you know the drill rod and core-barrel system, hole angle and conditions behind it.

Compare capacity at the same tooling specification—not just the largest number in the brochure. Ask the supplier to confirm the proposed configuration for your drilling program.

2. Can the rig reach your site and work there?

Access roads, working space, water supply and transport arrangements can change which rig makes sense.

Include site photos with your inquiry. Explain the access route, available working area and water supply so the supplier can assess the equipment requirements.

3. Does the price cover the rig or the equipment package?

A lower quotation may exclude drill rods, core barrels, bits, pumps or spare parts. Ask for a clear list of:

  • What is included.
  • What must be purchased separately.
  • Whether your existing tooling is compatible.

Compare the same supply scope before comparing prices.

4. What evidence and support come with the machine?

Ask for operating or test footage of the model under consideration, together with the configuration and conditions shown.

Confirm training, spare parts, warranty coverage and technical support before ordering. For remote exploration sites, these arrangements matter when getting equipment into service and keeping it working.

Not sure which rig to choose? Send these five details.

Project country, target drilling depth, core specification, ground conditions and site photos.

If something is not yet confirmed, say so. We can use the available information to begin the equipment-selection discussion.
